Once you have received the email that gives your judging assignment for the competition and you know the category you will be judging, we ask that you spend an hour or two in the week before the contest becoming familiar with the rules and judging criteria for History Day projects in that category. The students have worked hard to ensure that their projects meet the rules for National History Day – they want to know that the judges are familiar with the rules as well!
Your time during the day of the contest will go by pretty quickly. We will have a judge orientation first thing in the morning of the contest to go over key points and answer questions about the judging process, but the judging process will feel more comfortable to you if you become familiar with the rules and procedures ahead of time.
Both Papers or Web Sites are submitted ahead of the contest date. If you are judging one of these two categories, you will be provided access to the student entries prior to the contest date. Please review the training materials here before beginning to evaluate any student entries.
